In my case the internal shock sensor (a tiny spring-shaped conductor around a spike on the PCB) is very insensitive: the lamp turns off every three minutes while cycling, only switches back on to a very strong tapping. Maybe the sensor should be short circuited, because in this state the auto power off (or autostart) function is a bug, not a feature. More detailed technical info: the main led current is not stabilized, it varies between 1A - 0,2A (as the battery voltage drops 4,2V to 2,8V), the brightness decreases in a similar ratio as the battery discharges. The maximal luminous flux can be about 350..400 lumen - based on the measured led current and Cree XP-G datasheet - in state '100% main light', but on average around 260 lumen (with 3,7V typical Li-polymer battery voltage and 2,2W led power). In power saving / 50% mode the leds PWM frequency is around 260 Hz.

  • cheech I have similar issue with the lights turning off automatically every few minutes when riding and this is not on the light sensor mode. When this happens, the light needs to be manually turn on again. I agree that this power saving feature has become an annoying bug while riding at night. This can be quite hazardous to the riders and other road users at night when the light turns off suddenly on roads or tracks that have vehicles or pedestrians.

  • hg2edb Since then I have bought two other pieces, and those lamps are not affected by the problem of the shock sensor. It seems that only the first one was faulty (but I finally got it fix by alteration the sensor with tweezers).

  • vmicho PWM 260 Hz is really unacceptable for a headlight. Also looking at the size of that thing, 600 lm is surely too optimistic (even the above mentioned 400 lm sounds exaggerated for me) :]

  • hg2edb Efficiency is 115..135 lm/W (neutral / cool white XP-G). The measured current of the LED (in "100% Main light" mode) was 700 mA with 3,8 V battery. Of this, the LED's power was 2,14 W (3,05V * 0,7A). With average efficiency the calculated luminous flux: 266 (±20) lumen. A fully charged Li-po battery is max 4,2V, and the measured LED current: 1A -> power: 3,15W -> luminous flux: 378 (±30) lm. This value is valid for a short time because the battery voltage drops quickly to the nominal 3,7V.

  • glaci you are right. i had the same problem, short circuited the sensor, and works perfectly for 3 year
