Stopped engraving . it is about 1/2 as bright , and its case gets warm i had it in a 5V regulated supply limited to just less than 300ma. it was going great as usual , then it went real good , it started burning a test bit of card board , then it burnt rite through . then it stopped burning . now it's like it wa stuck at 1/2 power . very annoying when the specs provided here are a bit ambiguous. i had passive and active fan cooling , either the driver is dead or wounded or it failed and the diode is damaged. the supply was a clean 5v and 300ma . not the unit draws more that it used to , and get way hotter . i will have to think about getting a replacement . i tried driving the diode directly with one of the driver circuits they sell here and it makes no diff. i think the protection circuit died.

Prime_8 it was the diode , the 5V supply i had failed. it was letting more than 5 , almost 6v. i purchased a replacement and the new one works better than the first ever did . I suspect i hade a bad power supply .
