At close distance the image is clear and as long as the screen is powered all the time the video pops up as soon as the power is applied to the transmitter and camera. In the car that means you should wire the screen and wireless receiver on a 12V line that is on when engine is running or the key is in accessory position. 12V that is applied to the radio will be a good option. The camera and the transmitter should be powered from the wire that turns on your backup lights. That way you power them as soon as you shift to reverse. Pay attention to attach the receiver to the yellow input (input 1). That will, theoretically, allow you to use the white video input (input 2) for something else and if that source is in use when you back up, the monitor will switch automatically to input 1 when signal is present.
